Notes for Inez* Signhild Maria Janzon
Inez, at the age of 21, aspired to become a nurse. She had some prior experience, as her mother, Ida, managed a care home in Uppsala.
On April 10, 1907, Inez and her mother Ida relocated from Uppsala to Storgården in Vika, Dalarna.
The 1910 census recorded Inez, her husband Gösta, and their son Karl Gösta residing at Storgården, Vika, Dalarna.
In 1911, the family relocated from Vika to Gävle, Hille Parish. They remained in Gävle until June 1916, when, with four children, they moved to Stockholm, Brännkyrka parish.
Notes for Gösta (Spouse 1)
Gösta’s parents were Karl Gustaf Bengtsson, a wholesaler (grosshandlare) born in Stockholm on June 5, 1848, and Ida Augusta Ahlstedt, also born in Stockholm on September 13, 1845.
Following Gösta’s father’s death in 1902, his mother relocated on October 3, 1808, from Stockholm to Storgården in Vika, Dalarna. Ida Janzon (Öller) and her daughter Inez Signhild also moved from Uppsala to Storgården in Vika that same year.
After being absent from Sweden for nine years, Gösta returned in the autumn of 1908 from Portland, USA, to visit his mother. It was during this visit in 1908 that Gösta met his future wife, Inez Signhild Maria Janzon.
In 1911, Gösta, Inez, and their son Karl relocated from Vika to Gävle, Hille Parish. The family remained in Gävle until June 1916, at which point, with four children, they moved to Stockholm, Brännkyrka parish.
Following Inez’s death in 1919, Gösta departed on September 7, 1921, from Gothenburg and arrived on the M/S Canada on October 28, 1921, in San Francisco, California. Gösta subsequently relocated to Tahiti after his employer’s liquidation. He never returned to Sweden.
Gösta’s grandson, Jens Schliemann-Jensen, authored a Swedish television program entitled “en enkel till Tahiti” and published a book with the same title. The book and television program chronicle Jens grandfather’s life in Tahiti.
For reference, excerpts from Jens’ book include:
Following Gösta’s father’s demise in 1902, his mother experienced a mental illness. It is possible that she received care from Ida Janzon (Öller) and her daughter Inez Signhild, as Ida Janzon (Öller) was operating a care home in Uppsala at the time.
